Hallelujah Anyhow

Life can be unpredictable. And often, it produces circumstances that feel chaotic. When those circumstances spark anxiety, stress, and overwhelm in us, we may feel like the abundant life Jesus promised us is beyond our reach. So how can we find peace in God while wrestling with the unwelcome twists and turns that show up in our lives? In this seven-session series, pastor and author Rev. Dr. Charlie Dates will take us through various psalms to help shape how we respond to stress and anxiety.

Thy Kingdom Come

Open book on wooden table with grapes and mug.

Abiding in Christ. Growing in His likeness.

How do we carry what God teaches us into the life we actually live?

Thy Kingdom Come is a spiritual formation framework of I’m Third Ministries, rooted in our guiding philosophy:

God First. Neighbor Second. I’m Third.

Through Scripture, reflection, and practice, we seek to deepen our relationship with God and allow His love

to shape our character, relationships, service, and witness.

Jesus invites us: “Abide in me, and I in you” (John 15:4).

This framework has helped me abide in Christ and respond to what God is teaching me.

I offer it for your consideration, examination through Scripture, and use in your own growth.

A Framework for Spiritual Growth

Why a Framework Helps

Have you ever understood something during Bible study, then struggled to carry it with you through the week?

We are finite people learning to walk with an infinite God. A framework gives us a way to remember what we receive, connect it with other truths, and return to it in practice.

We already carry ideas about what spiritual growth looks like. We may emphasize knowledge, church attendance, service, or meaningful worship experiences. Examining those ideas helps us recognize both their value and what we may be overlooking.

Thy Kingdom Come brings five interconnected areas into view: Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry, and Evangelism. These pillars help us consider how our response to God reaches into the whole of life.

God’s saving grace comes first. Our growth and participation are responses to His love and His work in us. We depend on Christ throughout the journey.

Five Interconnected Pillars

These five pillars organize biblically grounded dimensions of Christian life. We examine them individually to recognize where growth may be needed, while remembering that each belongs to the whole. Love governs them all.

Worship — Loving God with Our Whole Lives

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
Mark 12:30, KJV

Worship turns our attention and devotion toward God. In response to His grace, we offer Him our love, gratitude, trust, and surrender. Worship shapes our everyday choices as well as our gathered praise.

Where is God inviting me to love Him more fully?

Discipleship — Learning to Follow Jesus

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 28:20, KJV

Discipleship joins learning with obedience. We receive Christ’s teaching and allow Him to shape how we think, choose, and live. Romans 8:29 describes the direction of that formation: being conformed to the image of God’s Son.

What is Jesus teaching me to put into practice?

Fellowship — Learning to Love One Another

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
John 13:34, KJV

Fellowship gives expression to our shared life in Christ through care, truth, encouragement, accountability, and belonging. Jesus’ command to love our neighbor also carries that concern beyond our familiar circles.

Where do I need to give—or receive—Christlike love?

Ministry — Serving with What God Has Given

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
1 Peter 4:10, KJV

Ministry puts love into action. We offer our gifts, time, abilities, and resources to meet the needs of others. Following Jesus’ example, we seek to serve in ways that reveal God’s care and give Him glory.

Who might experience God’s care through what He has entrusted to me?

Evangelism — Bearing Witness to Jesus

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 1:8, KJV

Evangelism bears witness to who Jesus is and what He has done. Depending on the Holy Spirit, we share the good news and invite others to know and follow Christ. The Great Commission connects that invitation with the continuing work of making disciples.

How can I faithfully share Christ with someone God brings into my life?

Abiding Throughout the Journey

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
John 15:5, KJV

Abiding nourishes all five pillars. We remain in Christ as we worship, learn, love, serve, and bear witness. Through prayer, Scripture meditation, listening, gratitude, confession, and surrender, we give Him our attention and respond to His leading.

Growth includes returning to what we have learned, recognizing what needs attention, and taking another faithful step. In seasons of joy, uncertainty, or unresolved sorrow, we continue bringing our lives to Him.

Take One Faithful Step Today

Where is God inviting you to respond?

Begin with either devotional journey. Read the Scripture, carry one question into your day, and make room for a practical response.

Lord, let Your Kingdom come, and let Your will be done in me.
